Booking a room of your own makes a birthday, a leaving do or a family get-together far easier: you can talk without shouting, make a speech, and the staff look after just your table. Brighton, Hove and Lewes have plenty of these rooms, from a single table for 14 downstairs in a Hove restaurant to a pub function room in Lewes that seats 60.
This guide covers nine venues, six in Brighton and Hove and three in Lewes. We only included places whose own website gives a seating number for the room, and wherever a venue publishes a price, a minimum spend or booking terms, we quote it. Everything was checked on the venues' websites in October 2026. We left out places that name a room but give no numbers, and one whose figures disagreed between its website and its brochure.
The photo shows Meeting House Lane, one of the narrow alleys of Brighton's Lanes, a few minutes' walk from several of the venues below.

Depot is a cinema in Lewes run by the charity Lewes Community Screen, and it also has a restaurant and rooms to hire. How to book a private room
First, ask how the venue charges. A minimum spend means your group must spend at least a set amount on food and drink; the room itself is free, and anything below the minimum is usually charged anyway. A hire fee is paid for the room on top of what you eat and drink, as at Depot. Some places simply ask you to choose a set menu at a fixed price per head.
Then check the extras. Ask whether a service charge is added (Fourth and Church adds 12.5%), how much deposit is taken and when it comes back, how much notice you need to give to cancel or change numbers, and whether you have to order food in advance. Many set menus need everyone's choices a week or so ahead, and some charge for every guest booked even if fewer turn up. Get the details in writing before you pay anything.
Common questions
Common questions
Where can I find private dining in Brighton?
This guide lists seven places in Brighton and Hove with a private room: Hotel du Vin (six rooms for 10 to 100), Burnt Orange (12), the Salt Room (12), the Walrus (Dining Room for 60), Fourth and Church in Hove (6 to 14) and Cin Cin Hove (16). Seating numbers come from each venue's own website.
Which restaurants in Brighton have private rooms for 20?
For about 20 people, look at Hotel du Vin's SMWS Snuggle (22 for dining) or Ridgeview (30), the Walrus's Hideaway (40 seated) or Dining Room (60). Burnt Orange, the Salt Room, Fourth and Church and Cin Cin have rooms for 16 or fewer.
Is there a private dining room in Lewes?
Yes. The John Harvey Tavern on Cliffe High Street has an upstairs room seating 60, Depot by the station has the Studio for 28 diners, and Pelham House off the High Street has the Panelled Room for 8 to 24.
How much does a private dining room cost in Brighton?
Few venues publish a figure. Hotel du Vin's private dining menus are £42.95, £47.95 or £60.95 a head, Burnt Orange's feasting menus are £60 or £80 a head, and Fourth and Church's sharing menus start at £45 a head with £500 paid when booking, taken off the bill. Do I need to pay a deposit for a private room?
It depends on the venue. Fourth and Church takes £500 when you book, and the John Harvey Tavern asks for buffets to be paid in full seven days ahead. The others do not publish deposit terms, so ask before you confirm.
